In the competitive world of online gaming, milliseconds matter. Players expect zero lag, instant responsiveness, and seamless gameplay. For game server providers, that means operating on the edge of infrastructure performance – with ultra-low latency, bulletproof DDoS protection, and the ability to scale instantly.
DatHost is one such provider. Since switching to DataPacket, they’ve grown from 800 to over 10,000 customers – each running servers for communities of thousands of players worldwide – by turning infrastructure into a competitive advantage.
Founded by a team of engineers with a passion for infrastructure, DatHost provides game server hosting for titles like Counter-Strike, Minecraft, Valheim, and more. With a strong focus on esports and competitive play, DatHost serves a global customer base – ranging from casual players to platforms organizing large-scale international tournaments.
“We’re obsessed with technical quality and user experience. We offer all-inclusive, easy-to-use servers with great support, so our users can focus on the game, not the setup.”Svante Boberg, CTO, DatHost.
Despite operating with a lean team, DatHost handles ~2 million EUR in annual revenue and brings in around 2,000 new users per month.
The collaboration with DataPacket began in September 2021, when DatHost urgently needed a Stockholm-based server to migrate a client experiencing a heavy DDoS attack. At the time, their infrastructure was a mix of in-house and third-party providers, but rising customer expectations and growing attack volumes pushed them to look for something more robust.
What started as a single trial server evolved into a full migration in early 2023, with 631 servers deployed on DataPacket’s infrastructure since then.
We realized DataPacket’s pricing was more competitive than expected –once we got in touch directly. It was a no-brainer to consolidate with one trusted partner.
For DatHost, the decision came down to four critical factors:
Even a single millisecond matters in competitive gaming. Players can feel it. With DataPacket, we know the routing is optimized and any bad ping issues get solved.
They also appreciated the opportunity to beta-test the new generation of DataPacket’s proprietary anti-DDoS protection – with a strong focus on Layer 7 defense tailored specifically to game servers. The early results showed great promise for mitigating advanced application-level threats without affecting gameplay.
In early 2024, the surprise breakout of Palworld – which became the second most played game on Steam by concurrent players – caused a 500% surge in traffic within days.
It was chaos. We grabbed everything in stock across all providers. At DataPacket, we took every server available and placed new orders to keep up with traffic. It was five times our usual load.
During that single week:
Hosting game servers is a technical balancing act. For high-stakes games like CS2, every component – from CPU choice to routing strategy – must be fine-tuned for performance, reliability, and speed.
Here’s how DatHost makes use of DataPacket’s infrastructure:
Relying on DataPacket's regionally focused, low-latency network, DatHost delivers fast, uninterrupted connections to players in every country
In Sweden – one of DatHost’s key hubs – DataPacket’s local peering connects directly to Telia Company, Tele2, Telenor, and others, reaching the majority of Swedish households with minimal latency for a truly seamless gaming experience.
DataPacket’s presence in 60+ cities worldwide enables DatHost to deploy servers close to players – whether that’s both coasts of Australia or key hubs in Europe and North America. Better proximity means lower latency and better performance across the board.
CS2 is CPU-bound, and DatHost runs on high-performance CPUs like AMD EPYC 7443P (24c @ 2.85 GHz) and AMD EPYC 4584PX (16c @ 4.20 GHz) to ensure low tick variance and minimal delay.

Best value choice for businesses needing high clock speeds and efficiency.
DataPacket’s mitigation handles UDP-heavy traffic and game-specific attack vectors without causing lag or packet loss – critical during high-visibility tournaments.
In July 2025, DatHost was targeted by the largest DDoS attack in its history – a staggering 2 Tbps. Thanks to DataPacket’s advanced Layer 7 protection, the targeted server remained online throughout the entire attack without disruption.
As far as I can tell our server stayed online the whole time, ~2 Gbit of the attack traffic reached our server where it was easily dropped by our L7-inspection in our software firewall. Hats off to you and your team, most impressive.
This real-world stress test underscored the effectiveness of DataPacket’s game-optimized DDoS defense – not just in theory, but in the heat of an actual attack.
DatHost relies on 99.9%+ uptime and fast hardware replacement, backed by proactive monitoring and transparent incident communication.
With DataPacket’s self-service portal, new servers can be deployed in under 30 minutes. The API-based setup and short billing cycles allow DatHost to adjust capacity on the fly.
We love the self-service portal. We can deploy servers in under half an hour. And when we need help, someone is always on Slack, ready to fix things fast.
What began as a performance-focused infrastructure upgrade evolved into a long-term strategic partnership. Today, DatHost evaluates market expansion partly based on DataPacket’s global PoP footprint – adopting nearly every new location as soon as it launches. This global coverage enables them to serve players with lower latency, enter new regions faster, and support demanding customers.
DatHost has seen massive growth since transitioning to DataPacket:
DatHost plans to expand further into multiplayer survival games like Project Zomboid, where infrastructure quality is a key differentiator. With DataPacket’s continued geographic expansion, robust peering, and automation features, DatHost is ready for the next level of growth.
